Functional Testing

Test, don’t guess

“…modern medicine will only be truly effective once it is has transitioned from reactive disease care to a framework that is predictive, preventive, personalized, and participatory.”

Leroy Hood

As part of your treatment plan, I often recommend functional testing with blood tests, stool tests or SIBO breath tests. Pathology testing allows me to accurately understand the drivers behind your symptoms, and make targeted changes through diet and supplements. I only ever recommend a test if it will impact the course of treatment, and will refer to Medicare where appropriate. Testing speeds up your treatment as it means we can pinpoint the key issues, develop a clear comprehensive plan and monitor progress.

As a holistic nutritionist, I am commitment to ongoing training, I have completed the in-depth Nourished Gut Practitioner course and the revolutionary SIBO Roadmap course, looking at bacterial imbalances behind IBS, IBD and SIBO. The results in my patients has been noticeable immediately, and I look forward to helping more people resolve ongoing digestive issues while allowing them to eat a broad range of foods without fear.

Gut Testing

Research overwhelmingly indicates that gut health impacts overall health. The gut microbiome plays a critical role in mediating the effects of diet and other factors on health, including digestive, immune, metabolic and neuroendocrine functions. Assessing the microbiome can help identify the root cause of chronic illness. While this is fantastic for identifying digestive conditions, it is far broader than that:

  • Autoimmune diseases

  • IBS/IBD

  • Digestive complaints, diarrhoea or constipation

  • Brain fog

  • Skin problems, like acne and psoriasis

  • Mood disorders, depression, and anxiety

  • Diabetes, poor energy and weight loss issues

  • Unexplained weight gain

SIBO

Bacteria in the small intestine is often the cause behind bloating, heartburn, reflux, low appetite, gut pain, food sensitivities and the many complications that stem from these issues.

Identifying SIBO is done through an at-home breath test. Preparation for this test should be done thoroughly and I’m pleased to offer a detailed resource pack to my patients to ensure you get the most accurate results.

SIBO tests identify the different gases being produced, which allows for targeted treatment and elimination through diet and supplements.

SIBO is increasingly common. Effective treatment can make a huge difference to your quality of life, and doesn’t need to be severely restrictive, so you can enjoy a wide range of foods without fear of pain, bloating or rushing to the toilet.

Female Hormone tests

Dried urine (DUTCH) testing assesses the levels of female reproductive hormones. This is particularly useful during menopause as it allows me to tailor treatment to balance the hormones and make effective changes to your symptoms.

The hormones tested are:

Three oestrogens - oestrone, oestrodial and oestriol

Progesterone

Testosterone

DHEA

Andostenedione

Other popular tests

  • Food sensitivity and allergies

  • Coeliac screen

  • Helicobacter Pylori via breath or stool testing

  • Pyrolles

  • Stress hormones

  • Neurotransmitter profiling

As a holistic nutritionist, I work with your test results to give you a tailored diet plan to help you feel better and enjoy more energy
